The game of Apocalypse Now is a reality; Francis Ford Coppola and a group of industry veterans of the game, with people of Obsidian or inXile, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to finance part of their development.
Although it smells quite crowdfunding to measure people’s interest in the project (there are several private companies back, among them American Zoetrope, Coppola and George Lucas producer), it is interesting to see that behind the game, a «RPG immersive and psychedelic horror», there are people like Rob Authenti (which he wrote with Tom Bissell Gears of War: Judgment), Lawrence Liberty , Josh Sawyer and Montgomery Markland, the three come out of Obsidian.
“The game is an interactive recreation of the journey of Willard, seen with a lens of survival horror in which players with limited resources are faced with unspeakable terrors,” they explain in the Kickstarter. «Choosing how to react to these situations, each player shapes a unique version of Willard within approximate limits of the story of the film. Are you Willard and your actions determine your fate.”
They do not want to be “a Call of Duty in Viet Nam”, and that not intended to be “a solitary war machine» that is solving the problems with bullets. «Instead, you will have rewards for acting with caution and carefully limited resources.»
Although not much seen in the video that presented the campaign (you have it on these paragraphs), there are some very short snippets towards the end. Wait, I guess, to see something more juicy: at the moment, want to get it approximately in October 2020.
In the team there are also veterans of crowdfunding: Montgomery Markland was producer of Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera, both funded on Kickstarter. Markland also was part of Killspace Entertainment, that not sounds if not return to 2010, when came rumors of a possible game of, precisely, Apocalypse Now. The pieces are fitting.
