Daedalic Entertainment will publish this summer the first part of its adaptation of The pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett novel. This ambitious adventure game will be available on computers, PS4 and Xbox One.

The game, also developed by Daedalic, is divided into three parts, each with seven parties; This summer will be the first, and at this year’s Gamescom, which takes place from 22 to 26 August, will be new information on the following «books», as parts of its episodic adventure called the German study.

They say that the greatest game ever created, and a recent statement explains that his idea has been to transform the 1,200 pages of the Follett book in an “interactive novel” which tells a “non-linear story with three main playable characters», is a monk, an architect and the children of a murdered count. The story weaves intrigue, set in England in the 12th century, which has sold what is not written: 26 million books, neither more nor less.

From Daedalic explained that they have “retained the main story, but of course a game gives us more freedom to add decision-making and the interaction», in the words of Matt Kempke and Kevin Mentz, designers of this adaptation, which takes the freedom of allowing who plays have a certain influence in what happens in the story.
It is not unusual to see adaptations of this kind, although I am glad to see that Daedalic, specialists in adventure and one of the studies with more European tone that occur to me, is betting on the literature as a source of inspiration. Recently published The Franz Kafka Video Game, a puzzle game developed by Denis Galanin and articulated around the life and work of the indispensable writer from Prague.
